The North American International Auto Show is usually full of exotic concept cars that never actually make it to any production plant. The concept designs are futuristic, have far too much horsepower for daily driving, and usually would cost a small fortune when it comes to deciding on MSRP. Honda will be showcasing their next generation Civic, and consumers will be quite excited about what they see. Honda already has great success with their Civic compact, but the improvements will make sure that it stays near the top of the growing class.
Toyota is bringing along their Prius family of vehicles, and consumers are eager to see what Toyota has designed for them. The main goal of the Prius is fuel economy, but in recent years, they have shifted their attention to comfort features and luxury items to entice a wider range of shoppers. The government is requiring a fleet fuel economy of 35.5 mpg by 2016, and you might be familiar with CAFE, or corporate average fuel economy. This means that the average fuel economy for an entire brands line up of vehicles must be at least 35.5 mpg, so auto makers will need to sell a greater abundance of smaller, more economical vehicles. The fact that auto brands such as Chrysler, GM, and Mazda will be showcasing practical concept designs rather than dream cars means that consumers will likely have a huge selection of small cars to choose from in the near future.
