Hybrid sales for July 2010 were recently tabulated, and sales are down 33% compared to last year! What is even more shocking is that total vehicle sales were up by 5%. That means Americans are choosing to buy fewer hybrid models. Hyundai Kia Green Bay doesn’t have to worry too much, as their hybrid line up has yet to hit the market. Plus, Hyundai’s sales were up 27.5% compared to last year. Hopefully they will release their anticipated Sonata Hybrid sooner rather than later! The hybrid sales from Winston Chevrolet Dealer and other Chevy and GM dealerships across the nation weren’t exactly great; the best seller was the Silverado Hybrid, selling 115 units. The folks at VW Peoria are doing pretty well also, with their total sales compared to last year up by about 40,000 units; let’s at least hope it is their clean burning diesel engine models that account for most of the sales!
Only 23,841 hybrid vehicles were sold for July 2010, and the biggest chunk of that pie came from Toyota and Lexus, scooping up 73.9% of all hybrid United State’s sales. The Prius alone sold 14,102 of its incredibly fuel efficient models, which is a 28.2% increase just from June! People don’t seem to be afraid of sticky accelerators anymore. The Camry Hybrid sold 1,276 models while the Highlander was able to get 575 units off the lots. The big seller for Lexus was the RX450h, which sold 1,356 units.
Honda should be quite proud of themselves, as their brand new model, the Honda Insight, sold 1,858 units. That is an impressive 25% gain from last month, making it the second most popular selling hybrid model for July 2010. The Civic Hybrid held on and sold 617 units. Ford was able to sell the next most amount of hybrids for July. Their popular Ford Fusion Hybrid sold 1,586 while the most affordable and fuel efficient SUV on the market the Ford Escape sold 1,260 units. Their luxury cousin Mercury didn’t do quite as well, but their luxury sales were 90 of the Mercury Milan Hybrid and 100 of the Mercury Mariner Hybrid.
