Toyota reveals electric RAV4;

rav4ev waterfall 300x277 Toyota reveals electric RAV4;Toyota will be releasing an electric RAV4 model, which will be a competitor to SUV models sold at a Maryland Honda dealership, although there no model quite like the upcoming RAV4. It will be an electric vehicle with a 100 mile range and based on the RAV4 platform. Toyota has teamed up with Tesla to provide the battery technology that will be used on the new RAV4, and other high quality electric-hybrid models can be purchased from a Honda Troy dealership. The 100 mile range is possible with the latest battery technology that Tesla and Toyota have combined to develop, and similar technology can be found on models sold at a Honda Dealership Los Angeles.

Toyota will be building 35 electric RAV4 models for demonstration purposes in 2011. The current RAV4 is built in Canada and uses Tesla battery technology, with the full model due to be released in 2012. The full engineered RAV4 will have a range of 100 miles in a variety of climates. Toyota worked with Tesla to provide a vehicle that had a large range and a fast development. The project was approached as a “major-minor” product change by taking a fully engineered RAV4 and the upgrading it with an electric powertrain as well as updating some other features. The demonstration vehicles that Toyota is producing will be drivable, although they will not be exactly like the final vehicle, and the purpose of this is to allow customers to experience what driving a RAV4 will be like before the launch of the actual vehicle. The demonstration vehicle weighs more than the current RAV4 V6 but it can accelerate nearly as quickly, and is quite similar to the current RAV4.

The “top safety pick” award is for vehicles that exceed federal regulations for safety rules. The all new 2011 Honda Civic, which can be purchased at Houston Honda Dealership, was ranked number 17 out of 33 Affordable Small Cars.  It comes with one engine, a 1.3 liter four cylinder gas engine that is paired with an electric motor.  It creates 110 horsepower and 123 pound feet of torque.  The Civic also has a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT).

Another Honda to look at would be the 2011 Honda Insight, which can be purchased at Honda Dealership Texas.  It was ranked number 24 out of 33 Affordable Small Cars.  It is powered by an Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) system, which has an electric motor that creates acceleration power and produces like a generator to charge the battery during braking or coasting.  The Insights four cylinder engine and Continuously Variable Transmission helps conserve fuel.

The Insight also did well on crash tests.  They received five stars in front and side drive crash tests and four stars in front passenger, side rear passenger and rollover two wheel drive crash tests.  The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety also gave the Insight it’s highest rating of “Good” in front offset and side impact crash tests.  Honda has equipped the Insight with a few safety features as well.  Some of them include; anti-lock brakes with electronic brake distribution, multiple threshold front airbags, front side airbags, LATCH, vehicle stability assist and side curtain airbags.

Honda has given the Insight and the Civic a pretty cut and dry protection package.  It consists of three years or 36,000 mile basic warranty and a five year or 60,000 mile powertrain warranty.  The only difference is that Honda covers the Insights Integrated Motor Assist battery pack with a warranty, but you will have to check with your local dealer to find out the length.

While PHEVs and electric vehicles (EVs) cost more money upfront, they are actually cheaper to run and maintain than a regular non hybrid car.  For example, if gas is $3/gallon, the very best non hybrid cars will cost 8 cents per mile for gas and gas guzzlers will cost 20 cents or more per mile.  A PHEV, on the other hand, will cost only 2-4 cents/mile during short trips.  Or if you’d like another way to look at it, when running on the electric engine, you’re getting the equivalent of 75 cent/gallon gas.

Since the electric grid only depends on oil for 3% of its power, there’s very little dependence on foreign oil when it comes to generating electricity (about half comes from coal).  It’s been estimated that if everyone drove PHEVs, we’d need 55% less oil and we could eliminate foreign oil completely.

Chrysler has shown interest in a natural gas-powered engine for some time. It would certainly add a bunch of diversity to the low emission market. Mazda Dealer FL is certainly looking for diversity in their market as Japan is still reeling from tragedies causing production shutdowns and low product volume. Even bad credit car dealers are having trouble. This could be a huge opportunity for European imports to offer what they have in the wake of the earthquakes. Domestic autos are doing well abroad and at home like Cincinnati Ford. Why couldn’t European automakers also try to make up for the shortages caused in Japan?
