GM Onstar 300x172 GM and Nissan Smartphone AppsThe days are finally here that we will see electric vehicles driving next to us on the road.  Even the luxury brand at Shreveport Mercedes-Benz have plans to make an electric car that will not skimp out on the glitz and glamour that keeps their customers coming back.  If you plan on buying the Nissan Leaf or Chevrolet Volt when they finally become available, you should know that they are some fancy smartphone applications that will make your life a lot easier.  You can’t get an electric vehicle from Mazda Dealer Boston yet, but we are sure the time will come.  There are plenty of other smartphone applications that will work with the cars at Manchester Used Car Dealers; a lot of the time there is only an initial cost for the equipment adapters that have to be installed on your vehicle.  After that is done, you can lock or unlock your doors and start your vehicle all from your smartphone!

Nissan Leaf app GM and Nissan Smartphone AppsThe release of the Nissan Leaf is just around the corner and the first ones should hit city streets this December.  Drivers will be encouraged to download the Nissan application so they will have most of the same functions that GM is giving Chevy Volt drivers.  The application has not been released to the public yet, but drivers will be able to schedule charging times and also pre-condition the cabin with heat or air conditioning while the car is still plugged in and charging.  That function will extend the driving range.

The Nissan Leaf is one of the most exciting models to hit the American market in many years. The Nissan Leaf will be the first fully electric vehicle model that can be powered by traditional grid electricity. The Chevy Volt will also be released soon, however the Volt will not be able to be powered by electricity alone as the Volt has a gasoline engine. Other hybrid models can be purchased from Colorado Springs Honda Dealers. The Nissan Leaf does not have an onboard gasoline engine, but the model will be capable of driving up to 100 miles on a single charge, making it a viable option for many types of commuters. The Chevy Volt, a competing model which is considered to be an extended range electric vehicle can be purchased from Payne Chevrolet and other dealerships.

Oregon Subaru also sells vehicle models that are fuel efficient and comparable in mpg to some of the top hybrids on the market. The Nissan Leaf has been lauded by reviewers for having one of the best battery management systems that have ever been released on a vehicle. The system has informatics that are considered to be “second to none” and it also points the driver to the nearest charging station when it is running low on electricity. The Nissan Leaf has a responsive acceleration and it is considered to be an easy to drive vehicle.

One complaint about the Leaf was that the steering response that the Prius is known for is not as responsive in the Leaf. The Leaf’s steering feels a bit numb and less responsive than other competing models. However it has other features that set it apart from competitors such as a lower price and modern, roomy interior which gives it all of the feeling of a regular car but with battery power.

If you are looking for a hybrid, look no further.  Toyota Minneapolis and Wichita Toyota both are carrying the new, 2010 Toyota Highlander Hybrid.  This hybrid was ranked number 5 out of 23 Affordable Midsize SUVs.  The Highlander Hybrid comes with a 3.3 liter, 208 horsepower V6 engine that is paired with a 167 horsepower electric motor and electronically controlled continuously variable transmission.  Like the older, non-hybrid model, which can be found at Used Cars Salt Lake City, the Highlander Hybrid has a nice warranty package.  It comes with a three year/36,000 basic warranty and a five year/60,000 powertrain warranty.  The hybrid related components which include the HV battery, battery control module, hybrid control module and inverter with converter are covered by an eight year/100,000 mile warranty.

The Highlander Hybrid received five stars for driver protection and four stars for passenger protection in frontal crash tests.  In side crash tests, the Highlander earned five stars for both front and rear seat protection and four stars for rollover scores.  The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has yet to test the hybrid, but the non-hybrid model received top scores of “Good” in frontal offset, side impact and rear crash protection tests.

The Highlander Hybrid is full of safety features.  They include three-row roll-sensing side curtain airbags and a drivers knee airbag.  It also comes equipped with Enhanced Vehicle Stability Control,2010 Toyota Highlander Hybrid 3 300x225 Toyota Highlander Hybrid Safe and Smart! Traction Control, Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, Brake Assist and Hill Start Assist Control.  The Highlander Hybrid also comes with a family-friendly conversation mirror.  This allows the driver to keep an eye on the kids in the backseat without ever having to turn around.

The interior of the Highlander base model isn’t to shabby either.  It comes equipped with a six speaker CD player, auxiliary audio jack, power windows, power door locks, remote keyless entry, a tilt/telescopic steering wheel and a multi-information display which shows the average fuel economy as well as the outside temperature.

There were a few pros and cons found on this vehicle.  US News listed some of the pros as being that it had an optional third row for family friendly capacity, seamless hybrid powertrain, and that its a quiet ride.  Some of the cons listed were that the interior had poor quality materials, fuel savings probably wouldn’t justify the steep price and that the base stereo was a disappointment.  All in all it really isn’t a bad SUV and it is definitely better for the environment.

The Civic hybrid comes with one engine, 1.3 liter four cylinder gas engine paired with an electric motor. Though it’s significantly improved, the 2011 Touareg is expected to cost about the same as the last model. With it priced around $41,000, the Touareg is one of the most affordable Suv’s in its class. As part of its redesign, the Touareg has lost its permanent four wheel drive system. While the previous model was an off roader, the new Touareg gets an all wheel drive system that makes it more of a soft roader. All models now come with a new eight speed automatic transmission.
